Beyond Pronouns: Unveiling the Strength and Opening Up for Healing

It’s been said that time heals, but I wonder why it wasn’t the case for her. I was lost in deep thought, trying to figure out why the healing power of time didn’t take its course in her case. I asked, “Is it because the pronouns are she/her and not he/him.” While all these thoughts were going on within me, I suddenly remembered the words of “LivingWitness.”

Time heals,

Too much time kills.

When you are weak,

You should weep.

When you are hurt,

You should shout.

Whether a boy/man

Or a girl/woman,

You should let go of bad energies,

And sweep it out of your mind

And watch the rains wash away your pains

What you open will dry,

What you cover will smell.

I meditated on these words and sighed deeply.

Now and then, we face diverse challenges and scenarios that can be very saddening. But the truth is that those unpleasant events aim to keep us and sink us deeper into silence. Whether male or female, the goal is still the same.

The song ‘Truth be told’ by Matthew West describes what is going on in our society today, which is the outward expression of many people versus the inward expression when asked the question ‘How are you?’. And it goes thus.

Lie number one: You’re supposed to have it all together

And when they ask how you’re doing

Just smile and tell them, “Never better”.

Lie number 2: everybody’s life is perfect except yours

So keep your messes and your wounds

And your secrets are safe with you behind closed doors.

Truth be told

The truth is rarely told now.

I say I’m fine, yeah I’m fine, hey I’m fine, but I’m not

And when it’s out of control, I say it’s under control

But it’s not

And you know it

I don’t know why it’s so hard to admit

When being honest is the only way to fix it.

Hey there, I don’t know what you are going through, but I want to applaud you for being strong. Depression is not gender dependent! So whether you are he/she, I want to let you know that you can overcome it, and it’s time to heal. I know it’s taking a toll on you. Health-wise, you feel sick now and then, but the truth is, it’s time to open up. Take a look around; there are still trusted people. Take a moment to share with someone what is going on.

David Richo once said, “Our wounds are often the openings into the best and most beautiful part of us.”
